Hey Folks, 

Completely humbled by this guest blog.  Due to budget restraints and travel time Matt couldn't commit to training 1 on 1 more than very intermittently. I suggested he try the PR1MEBODY Foundation 12 week programme delivered straight to his smart phone as a solution to keep him on track, motivated and consistent. Matt has become confident and completely independent in managing his own training -still using the app to track it all of course.

This is exactly what every coach wants and should aim for: whether training someone 1-1 or virtually through an app, to have them exceed to a level of -not just competence-  but of absolute domination. No longer dependent on coaching and having Matt instead take ownership of his own fitness is such a proud and positive feeling as a coach.

I’ve always wanted to thank Tim for making such a dramatic change to my fitness journey and basically changing my life (he'll hate me saying that but it's true), so here I am and although he’s quite self-deprecating about the whole thing, I’m glad he’s letting me do this guest blog, so I can inspire others to use PR1MEBODY and hopefully see some of the successes like I have. 

My journey before PR1MEBODY

We need to rewind a ‘few’ years first and best to give you a little insight into my journey pre-Tim and PR1MEBODY. I was pretty fat till the age of about 22 and finally saw the light and started to exercise and realised I had it in me to lose weight and get slimmer. I thought I understood  good nutrition (turns out i knew just the very basics) but it was enough to slowly but surely got to a better place body wise. I enjoyed exercise and started getting into doing runs/triathlons and set myself the target of doing a marathon, which I completed about 5 years ago in Amsterdam.

But there was one thing I’d always wanted, that elusive muscular physique and I finally felt I was able to go for it around the age of 28... 

I started out well and was hitting the gym 4 to 5 times a week. I got a personal trainer at the local Soho gym which I saw every 2 weeks which gave me a head start into a different world of training and motivation and I was consistently going and I could see myself getting a little leaner. I worked damn hard, to be honest, and I didn't have that body transformation I'd hoped for. After about a year I realised that this was going to be a lot harder than I thought, but the self-drive was still there and I had to look at ways to help myself. I really didn't want to give up and I'd set myself a challenge.

Looking for help

I tried the classics and was pulling workouts from magazines and was trying them in the gym. I felt a bit stupid, to be honest, and carrying around a piece of paper and pretending to know what I was doing just wasn’t working for me. I then started to look around the internet and social media for online training which I’d heard was a ‘thing’ but didn’t really understand it. I followed loads of fitness coaches and Tim was obviously one of them. Something resonated - if you follow Tim today you see he holds true to his work of giving genuinely sound advice about anything from the right technique, to best places to eat on the high street or maximising your mobility before your workouts! It was refreshing to see someone on social media who wasn't all me, me, me and look how good I am and what I've achieved.

Joining PR1MEBODY

So I took the plunge in Jan 2016 and started my PR1MEBODY journey. I'd downloaded Tim's nutritional guide beforehand and it really rang true to me with me the principles of what his programs offer and I wanted to know more. The guide opened my eyes to how much more there was to know about nutrition. I realised that I had to tackle my nutrition and training head on at the same time otherwise it just wasn't going to happen and PR1MEBODY provided both, giving me a fantastic framework on both parts. I opted in with the PR1MEBODY Foundation Plan. Tim advised me this was the best plan to start for my condition at that time.

The PR1MEBODY app is everything and more

What I didn't realise at the time and it's so easy to look back now and say it, but I just had NO idea what I was doing at the gym. It hadn't really clicked that this was my biggest problem, but I established very quickly after training with the PR1MEBODY app for just a few sessions that I'd wasted about 2 years of my life at the gym, basically doing most things wrong and I knew why I wasn't getting results. Before I was just aimlessly wandering around doing a little bit of push there, pull there, oh better work those legs. It was so random and sporadic and was just a bit of a joke really.

Training via the app literally revolutionised my gym sessions. I was able to use previous workout stats to progress my weights and all round progress. Thats when it all started to change. I hadn't realised how important it was to record training sessions. Even though it seems so logical now! 

One thing I can't thank Tim enough for is gym confidence. Before I was scared of doing something wrong, hurting myself, or just too fearful to go the weights section because the fit, muscular guys would be looking going 'what's this muppet doing?!' Now I find it hard to look back at that me and so thankful I'm over all that. I'm now the one that gets annoyed when all the squat racks are full!

The workouts were clearly designed and built to develop this confidence over the months and it was such a crucial part of my fitness journey.

Where next for me?

I've never looked back since i started on PR1MEBODY and I can't put into words how appreciative I am for Tim investing his time and energy into my fitness goals and successes. Recently I've loved been part of the pull-up protocol challenge Tim has in the Apollo Plan. Basically its based around an ever evolving amount of pull-ups every minute for 20 minutes. I reached 101 the other day, so I'm in the #100club!
